PREVIEW G8, Can You Hear Us?
Monday, 14th November 7.30pm Followed by Q&A with director and producer Christopher Mitchell Duration 60 minutes G8, Can You Hear Us? takes a look inside the global justice movement, following three very different activists as they make their way to Gleneagles to protest against this year's G8 summit. Theirs is a kind of political activism that attracts large numbers of British people, but is largely ignored or derided by mainstream media. Director Christopher Mitchells documentary goes behind the tabloid stereotypes and exposes a vibrant world where political commitment is expressed through direct action and the notion that changing the world can actually be fun. G8, Can You Hear Us? follows Green Party activist Matt Wootton as he cycles to Scotland. The Communist Party of Great Britain national organiser Mark Fischer seeks to convert everyone he meets but fails badly with Matt. John Jordan is the inspiration behind the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army, whose purpose in Scotland is to carry out peaceful civil disobedience and to encourage others to do so too. The clowns spread the anarchist word as they tour the country in a caravan fuelled by solar energy and recycled chip fat. G8, Can You Hear Us? has been produced for BBC 4. This is a pre-transmission screening. |
