SOAS calls on Palestinians to vote in London

Wednesday 25th of January, 2006 School of Oriental and African Studies, 9am-9pm.

The SOAS Palestine Society invites all Palestinians in the Diaspora to participate in symbolic elections on the actual date of elections to be held in the Occupied Palestinian Territories on the 25th of January 2006.

The reason behind the symbolic elections is for Palestinians in the Diaspora to reaffirm their individual right of return and to denounce their exclusion from the collective process of self-determination. However, non-Palestinians are encouraged and welcomed to come and show their support throughout the day for the internationally recognized rights of Palestinians.

The Palestine Society recognises the diverse opinions and perspectives of Diasporic Palestinians. Electoral lists, as put forward in the Occupied Territories, will be provided purely for educational purposes. However, there is by no means an obligation to vote for a list. The Society recognises that some people deny the legitimacy of tomorrow’s elections, and accordingly, will also have the option of destroying the ballot. It should be further emphasised that tomorrow’s vote at SOAS is purely symbolic and accordingly ALL of the ballots will be destroyed at the end of the day.

The elections will be held at SOAS, Russell Square Campus, in the main foyer (just past the reception desk) on Wednesday, January 25th, 2006 from 9am-9pm.
The Palestine Society would like to thank the SOAS Islamic Society for its contributions and support.
