Get fit, save money, and wash your clothes while saving the planet? Simple, sustainable solutions like the pedal-powered washing machine were put to good use at this year's BIG GREEN GATHERING, a five-day family camping event in southwestern England that's been held each year since 1994. This year's event was a green utopia, replete with pedal-powered smoothie makers, wind and sun powered music and cinemas, and biogas and veggie oil driven vehicles. Some 17,000 environmentally minded folk were there debating the problems around modern society's oil addiction and looking at permaculture as one possible solution.
