Form lavatories to homeopathy

What are the best and worst ideas in the history of medicine? Join the brand new spiked/Wellcome Collection online debate - ‘The Best and Worst of Medicine’ - and tell us what YOU think.

spiked and Wellcome Collection have launched a website to debate and discuss the top-dog medical breakthroughs that transformed humanity’s fortunes, and the worst-ever harebrained medical schemes that should be stuffed in the sin bin of history.

The online discussion will be followed by two big live debates at Wellcome Collection in central London, on 26 June (‘The Best of Medicine’) and 17 July (‘The Worst of Medicine’).

On the spiked debate site today, TV broadcaster and scientist Adam Hart-Davis says the toilet has been one of the greatest medical breakthroughs.

Meanwhile, Michael Baum and Edzard Ernst - co-author of the new book Trick or Treatment: Alternative Medicine on Trial - argue that homeopathy is a terrible idea that should be put out of its misery.
