Equity and Inclusion is at the top of many development agendas at the moment. This day workshop will look into the issues surrounding the topic and what can be done. During the day we will draw on experiences from people who have worked in various parts of Africa with organisations such as WaterAid and Disacare.

We will also be looking at more general issues such as identifying the excluded and the causes and effects of this. There will be various activities during the day to enable participants to reflect on what we , as engineers in development, can do and the realities of life for excluded members of society all over the world leading to how an equitable approach to development could drastically improve their lives.

* Identified who is excluded, how it impacts on their lives and why they are excluded.

* Learnt about the Rights Based Approach response to such situations.

* Examined ways in which engineers can take on board the awareness of the issue and implement this within their work.

* Looked at practical problems and come up with action plans and designs of how to implement new technologies into communities.
