Pact recently released its latest publication, "Building Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER) Systems for HIV/AIDS Programs." This publication is an easy-to-use manual designed to assist NGOs/FBOs/CBOs in developing a monitoring, evaluation and reporting (MER) framework for HIV programming with how-to sections on adopting this framework to the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief M&E requirements. This manual was developed and field-tested through partial funding from Pacts Global Community REACH and Pact South Africa programs which provides support to over 80 local organization partners implementing HIV/AIDS programs.

Some 10,000 Mongolian children who spend their days herding animals will soon be learning general literacy, animal husbandry, and business skills through videos, radio programs, and inserts in a monthly rural magazine.

Although Sudan has been all over the global news of late, the people of Southeast Sudan have had to rely on broadcasts from London or Khartoum--or word of mouth--for crucial information about their own affairs. Finally, a new bi-weekly newspaper directed at the region's literate youth is being distributed by the many aid planes that regularly cross the region.

In Zimbabwe, Pact, a U.S. non-profit, has partnered with three local organizations to create post-HIV test clubs called Moving On. With a cadre of local doctors, pharmacists, ministers, herbalists, and nutritionists, the clubs provide advice, referral services, peer counseling and access to affordable condoms to anyone who has taken the HIV test, regardless of the outcome.

Sustainable Livelihoods through Microfinance for the Poor, a project of the U.S. non-profit organization, Pact, has reached 55,973 clients in 515 villages in Myanmar since it was launched in 1997. Its success is based, among other things, on Pacts belief that long term poverty alleviation is attainable through financial capital in the form of savings and credit for the poor.
