They sent a water-privatizing multinational packing, and chased an ultra-neoliberal president all the way to Miami. Now they have come head-to-head with the ultimate goliath of globalization. The people of Bolivia — stalwarts on the front lines of anti-globalization — are trying to wrest control of the country's oil and gas reserves from the big boys of fossil fuel.

President Bush was met in South America with protests last week. In Canada this week, he was met again with chants, signs, and marchers "calling for justice in Iraq and just plain disgusted with [his] foreign and domestic policies." Claudia De Simone reports from inside one peaceful rally.

Canada's federal government is depending on the public to blame the Public Service Alliance of Canada for trying to get what everybody wants - some concrete recognition of the value of their work. Whatever the public decides, the Liberals are secure in the view that union busting sits well with the chief executive crowd.

Controversy rages in the labour movement as Canadian Labour Congress president Ken Georgetti tries to explain media reports that he now supports free trade. Georgetti insists CLC policy is to continue to oppose NAFTA and other similar trade deals. But a CLC position paper on the subject says free trade is not the "economic disaster" once predicted.
