The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs is about to unveil a plan that would bring in Finnish private sector as partners in official development co-operation. A central objective is to provide incentives for Finnish companies to invest more in developing countries, especially in African countries that have so far succeeded in attracting little Finnish private investment.

There is a debate in Finland about revision of the Finnish peacekeeping legislation and about deployment of Finnish forces besides to conventional UN crisis management also to similar missions under an EU or NATO mandate. "No other international actor is as close to the United Nations as the European Union," UN Ambassador of Finland, Kirsti Lintonen pointed out, and added that the EU is unlikely to deploy forces to missions that might be condemned by the Security Council.
