28.03.2003 The bravado of British Columbia's Liberals has taken a beating at the International Labour Organization. The ruling: B.C. has repeatedly violated the U.N.-guaranteed rights of public employees by refusing to negotiate with their unions, instead using the legislature to enforce its will. The remedy: the ILO wants to see several statutes amended and one repealed entirely.

27.03.2003 Ontario's Tory government will flout parliamentary traditions today by bringing down a provincial budget ... not in the provincial legislature, but in a Magma International auto parts facility in Brampton. No journalists' lockup, no parliamentary debate. The made-for-TV production has been condemned by many — including Tory backbenchers and Gary Carr, Tory speaker of the legislature.

25.03.2003 B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell pleaded no-contest Monday to all charges arising from his January drunk-driving arrest in Hawaii. "Anyone who drives while impaired to the level he was should be ashamed and embarrassed and afraid," said District Judge Reinette Cooper, imposing fines totalling CDN$1,350. Campbell was also ordered to complete a fourteen-hour alcohol assessment program, and could yet lose his B.C. driver's license for one year.
