GONG

GONG is a non-partisan citizens' organization founded in 1997 to encourage citizens to actively participate in political processes. GONG conducts non-partisan monitoring of election process, educates citizens about their rights and duties, encourages mutual communication between citizens and their elected representatives, promotes transparency of work within public services, manages public advocacy campaigns and encourages and helps citizens in self-organizing initiatives. GONG’s head office is located in Zagreb, and in its four regional offices are located in Rijeka, Slavonski Brod, Zadar and Zagreb.

02.04.2007 GONG association criticized the Report on the Implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information for 2006, discussed last Friday in the Croatian Sabor, and claims that the data it lists are incorrect and don’t correspond to the actual situation in the field.

14.07.2006 Tonka Rakusic, 60-year old citizen of Zagreb, was arrested yesterday while standing peacefully in the St. Mark’s Square in Zagreb, holding a banner that declared “I am a victim of judicial and police crime”. The Law on Public Gathering prohibits all forms of public gathering within 100-meter circle around the buildings of the Croatian Sabor, the President of the Republic, the Government and Constitutional Court. GONG association strongly protested the arrest.
