Council for the Defence of Human Rights and Freedoms

CDHRF was founded in December of 1989 with the goal to defend and promote human rights and freedoms, foreseen in UN Universal Declaration on Human Rights and other international documents on human rights. CDHRF investigates and testifies on human rights violation and demands from all that exercise power to reject the abusing practices and to respect international documents on human rights and freedoms. CDHRF is a member of the International Federation of Human Rights (IFHR) and also a member of the Steering Committee of Balkans Human Rights Network (BHRN). CDHRF is organized into 5 Regional Centers with 30 municipal offices, and has members from all ethnic groups living in Kosovo. CDHRF publishes daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports in Albanian, English and Serbian. CDHRF is also intensively involved in cooperating with the International Crime Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia.

08.06.2006 The Council for the Defence of Human Rights and Freedoms has called upon the authorities to provide greater transparency with regard to the administration of these institutions as well as the right to monitor the human rights situation of persons deprived of their freedom. Up to now, these requests have not been considered (despite the fact, that a number of international organizations, which operate in Kosova, have been granted such a right).
