Speaking recently as Chair of the African Union, President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria had plenty of advice for G8 leaders on aid, debt and trade issues. And he made a plea that the right to "decent work" should be included in the Millennium Development Goals.

The Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has questioned whether the dominant global economic model is creating real employment. Millions are working in informal economic sectors for desperate wages whilst owners of capital prosper.

Today (Sunday) is World Day against Child Labour which this year is dedicated to ending the practice of children working in mines and quarries, often in exceptionally hazardous conditions. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) leads the campaign.
