01.07.2004 A new scheme will boost NHS hospitals’ use of locally produced and/or organic food at St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, Tooting, South London, and three further pilot sites. The two year project is run by London Food Link (part of Sustain) in partnership with the Soil Association.

27.05.2004 The Health Select Committee’s Inquiry into Obesity recommendations, published on 26 May, will do nothing to prevent the marketing of unhealthy foods to children, says Sustain. Over the three-year period of delay recommended by the Committee, more than one hundred thousand children may become obese.

25.05.2004 An Early Day Motion (EDM) in support of Sustain’s Children Food Bill, tabled by Debra Shipley MP, already has support from 57 cross-party MPs. The EDM acknowledges the strength of the Children’s Food Bill in improving children’s diets and future health and sends a powerful message to the Department of Health, whose public health consultation ends this week.
