Captive breeding of Tibetan antelope, also called the Chiru, may be difficult due to the inhospitable terrain and the need for large financial resources, the Power Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Nuwang Rinjin Joora, has said. The shahtoosh shawl, which provides livelihoods to a large number of people, is made from the hair of the Chiru due to which the animal now figures in the list of endangered species.

The deaths of elephants at close intervals in the north east Indian state of Assam have raised concerns among elephant conservationists after three elephants were brutally killed by villagers near Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary. The deaths have taken place since July.
