This gallery is not so much about Buddhist culture itself, but mostly about the various structures and visible signs of Buddhist culture one may come across in Bhutan. Although the south of Bhutan has a Hindu culture it is not covered here, as I seldom visited that part of the country - most of it was closed to foreigners for security reasons, including the presence of camps of Indian rebel groups.

Piet van der Poel has worked in Bhutan as farming systems specialist and natural resources manager for some 6 years between 1993 and 2004. He was based in the capital Thimphu and in Trashi Yangtse in the east and has travelled, hiked and biked across most of the country.
