"The US needs a GOOD president"

Comment: What the US needs, is a GOOD president. It doesn't matter if it is a 'he' or a 'she', if the person is black, white, yellow or purple. I could care less if he or she is gay, single or divorced or if he or she comes from a poor or rich background. What truly matters if the person is able to do the job properly and in a respectable way. Without constantly flashing guns and bombs, without stigmatizing other countries and widening the divide between East and West. The US needs a president that
Global Warming serious, as it is a real threat that faces us all. America needs a leader who knows what the phenomenons 'diplomacy' and 'humanity' entails, someone who cares about his people and those living in other countries as these days American policy affects us all. And that is definitely not Bush. But thank who-ever that he cannot run for president once more.

Comment: Sad to say, this country won't elect a woman or a black president, at least not at this point. We forget that in order to elect someone they have to get more votes than the other person. The people who actually vote in this country are basically conservative. I lived in a county that was basically Republican, the party actually supplied buses that would pull up to the retirement center and bring them to the poles. It was imposible to elect someone outside the party. If we want change in this country we must register voters, that is the ONLY way. Until that moment we will keep on electing the same people. Perhaps in a generation we will, if we want to speed that up WE need to work hard to acheave a new goal. Electing a woman (or black) is a very romatic notion. We need to do more than think it.

Comment: You have only 3 comments (now 4) because anyone who clicks on the "vote" button can't get to the site. It starts out with "file" and the C drive ... not an HTTP entry to the net.

As for the question at hand, put me in the Yes column. Of course we are ready to elect a woman ... to any office, not just the presidency. Men have found in the past that having a woman in a public office does not bring down the republic, as many of them had feared. Be brave, fellas ... it will hurt only for a minute and then you'll love it!!

Comment: I agree that we would have to elect someone who was "tough on defense" if that person were a woman. We cannot afford to do that. We are already bankrupted by defense spending deficits. There is a danger of slipping into a state of "perpetual war" with a loss of respect from other nations and a loss of civil liberties at home. We can do without a woman as President, for the time being, if this is the price.

"A woman in men's clothing, maybe."

Comment: Could the U.S. electorate choose a woman? Yes. But only if she is excessively militaristic. Could the U.S. electorate choose a woman who preaches peace, solidarity, and fairness? Probably not yet.
